Spelling in 4th Grade

 

This year, the 4^th grade is trying a new routine in Spelling.  Every other week, students will bring home a Benchmark Spelling Test. This test includes a cloze story test, a phonic skills test and sentence dictation test.   This assessment will serve as a “benchmark” for fourth grade spelling.  On the following weeks, students will be tested on their Personal Word List.  Each student in the class will have a different word list. The word list is generated from students’ writing and words misspelled on the Benchmark Spelling Test.  Students will study these words for 2 weeks at home and at school. This on-going list will be stored in their Accordian Folder for easy studying access. They will be tested every other week by a peer. In conclusion, every Friday students will have one of the two spelling assessments and students will study their Personal Word List for two weeks.  We will soon get into a smooth routine!
